Menlyn Park’s “Beat the Wrap Race” Supports Tshwane Learners as Schools Reopen

As South African learners return to school, Menlyn Park Shopping Centre has launched a thoughtful initiative, “Beat the Wrap Race,” offering free schoolbook wrapping services to help ease the back-to-school burden for families. With the aim to foster community spirit, this project provides a practical solution for busy parents while supporting local children’s homes.

Tshwane, 20 January 2025: The back-to-school season can be overwhelming for many families in Tshwane, especially when it comes to the tedious task of wrapping schoolbooks. To alleviate this challenge, Menlyn Park Shopping Centre has launched the “Beat the Wrap Race” initiative, offering free book wrapping services for local learners.

Located at two convenient stations within the shopping centre — near Starbucks and Timberland, and by the Toys R Us entrance — the service allows shoppers to drop off exercise books, textbooks, or other schoolbooks to be expertly wrapped by a trained team. This initiative, which runs during regular trading hours, promises a swift and neat wrapping process, giving parents and learners peace of mind.

According to Nisha Kemraj, Centre Manager at Menlyn Park, “Wrapping schoolbooks is a time-consuming and expensive task for many families, and we wanted to make the process more enjoyable. This initiative not only offers a practical solution but also creates a sense of community while supporting a great cause.”

Shoppers have a variety of vibrant paper options and cheerful stickers to choose from, and the service is designed to make the wrapping experience more fun and engaging. While waiting for their books to be wrapped, visitors can explore Menlyn Park’s vast array of over 400 retail stores, enjoy a meal, or take a break in the centre’s leisure areas.

To add to the spirit of giving back, the initiative encourages shoppers to make small donations to support two local charities: Louis Botha and Jakaranda Children’s Homes. While the book-wrapping service is entirely free, any contributions will benefit these organizations, helping improve the lives of local children in need.

“At Menlyn Park, we’re not just about shopping – we’re about fostering connections and giving back to the community. The donations collected will help support two important local organisations that do incredible work for children,” says Kemraj.

Menlyn Park’s “Beat the Wrap Race” initiative is more than just a practical solution to a common back-to-school problem. It fosters a sense of community while supporting local children’s homes. Families are encouraged to visit the shopping centre, wrap their schoolbooks, and make a small contribution to a worthy cause.
